New Components for American Blower and American-Standard Fluid
Drives
TRI will sell these components to users for the user to install.
Alternately, if the user desires, TRI will provide Technical
Direction services to rebuild the fluid drive either on customers
site or in TRI’s service facilities in Lionville, PA.
.
The most common sizes and classes of these Fluid Drives that TRI
supports are:
- Size 270 Single Circuit, Class 6 and 7
- Size 250 Single Circuit, Class 6 and 7
- Size 231 Single Circuit, Class 6 and 7
- Size 270 Dual Circuit, Class 6 and 7
- Size 250 Dual Circuit, Class 6 and 7
TRI provides certain components for other sizes and classes of
American Blower or American – Standard fluid drives. Please inquire
with your application information.
TRI designs, manufactures, and supplies most of the items listed
below. Items that TRI purchases are limited to pumps, filters, heat
exchangers, certain standard components for brake systems and the
like.
Journal Bearings (Sleeve Bearings)
TRI makes these journal bearings with Steel Backing and Babbitt
lining.
The Babbitt has High Strength at High Temperature. (See Case Studies
and Tin-Copper Debonding Phenomenon for Justification for Using
Steel Backing Instead of Copper-based backing material.)
Can be made with undersize bore to suit undersized journals. Chrome
plating the journals is not necessary and is not recommended because
it can de-plate in service.
Specify Fluid Drive Size and Class.
Specify actual journal size or part number, if known.
Normal undersize is (-0.062”)
Thrust Bearings, Complete or Upgraded Components.
Pads (shoes) are properly shaped for the specific Thrust Bearing.
Specify Fluid Drive Size and Class.
Specify Actual Thrust Bearing size or part number, if known
Impellers, Runners, and/or Casings
Milled from AISI 4340 Carbon Alloy Steel, Heat Treated.
Specify Fluid Drive Size and Class.
Standard Design or
“Ruggedized” Design with Integral Reinforcing Ring connecting all of
the vanes.
Specify Fluid Drive Size and Class.
Specify part number, if known.
Input and/or Output Shafts:
Shaft End shapes and lengths are usually specific to the
application.
Shaft End shapes must be specified.
Specify Fluid Drive Size and Class.
Specify part number, if known.
Brake Discs
Direct replacement brake discs.
Standard size or undersize bore, or bore diameter specified by
Customer.
Specify part number, if known.
Brake Systems
Complete Upgraded Brake Systems with measurably improved
reliability.
Specify Fluid Drive Size and Class.
Scoop Tubes
Scoop Tubes for Dual Fluid Drives, Size 250 and Size 270
Tube and Scoop Tip are milled from one piece of AISI 4340 Alloy
Steel.
Tip cannot separate from Tube.
(Original ones had brass/bronze tip brazed to tube. Later ones were
made using cast stainless steel tip welded to the tube)
Specify part number, if known.
Oil pumps
Many of the original oil pumps are now obsolete.
TRI can supply the proper currently manufactured pump. (TRI does not
manufacture the pumps.)
TRI can design associated piping changes to suit the new pumps.
TRI can provide a package of pumps, piping design, and valves to
bring the oil system to current specs.
Specify pump number, if known.
Filter systems
Upgraded filters, including duplex filters.
Replacement Filter elements for upgraded duplex filter systems.
Heat Exchangers
Exact Replacement Heat Exchanger Bundles are usually available.
Heads and Channels can be remanufactured or replaced by TRI.
Gasket Sets are available. Specify material of gasket rings: Buna-N,
Viton, or other (name)
New tube and shell heat exchangers are available.
Alternately, new plate coolers are available.
If there are specific problems with existing heat exchangers, please
include this information.
TRI can provide engineered redesigns for cooling and piping systems.
In many cases, the original heat exchangers are not adequate to
cool the oil down to the desired cooler discharge temperature of 110
deg F, either because the original oil cooler discharge temperature
was specified too high, or because the current application, such as
sliding pressure operation, may require a larger heat exchanger
(cooler) than was anticipated by the A&E in the original design.
